Helium-filled soap bubbles are used to visualize airflows around a moving skater

Montag, 15. März 2021

This exciting survey was conducted at TU Delft using their Ring of Fire measurement system.

In this experiment thousands of bubbles filled with helium were illuminated with strong light to visualize the flow field around moving skaters.

With this method, it is possible to measure the exact air resistance of various postures during skating and therefore differences between skating with one arm behind the back or with the arm swinging free can be observed.

More information about this can be read here.
