How can leading-edge research, high-tech optical measurement and sustainable business be brought together?

LaVision is taking this path together with the Liga Nachhaltiger Betriebe. As a new member of this regional business network, we will use the next two years to systematically further develop our sustainability activities and to highlight the contribution our optical measurement systems make to more sustainable research across many disciplines.

Liga Nachhaltiger Betriebe as a strategic partner

The Liga Nachhaltiger Betriebe supports in particular small and medium-sized enterprises in Southern Lower Saxony in their transformation towards a more sustainable business model. Its core elements are practice-oriented training formats, structured reflection and the exchange of experience with other companies.

At the start of our membership, our colleague Sonja took part in a three-day Basiscamp. The programme provided a systematic perspective on ecological, economic and social aspects of sustainability and translated them into concrete ideas for action in day-to-day business.

Sustainability as a quality factor in research and measurement technology

For LaVision, sustainability is closely linked to scientific excellence and technical precision. Our optical measurement techniques make flow and combustion processes, particle motion, material deformation and complex flow fields visible. They provide the basis for research teams to:

• quantify and reduce emissions,
• increase efficiency in energy and process systems,
• bring new sustainable energy carriers and technologies into practical use more quickly,
• use resources in laboratories, test rigs and experimental facilities in a targeted and efficient way.

Typical application areas range from spray and combustion diagnostics for sustainable fuels, through flow visualisation in aerodynamics, process and environmental flows, to material and structural testing with Digital Image Correlation, as well as applications in microfluidics and medical technology. The data obtained enables experimental setups to be planned in a targeted manner, variants to be compared on a sound basis and measurement campaigns to be designed in a resource-efficient way. In this way, our measurement technology itself becomes a building block of responsible research practice.

Internal responsibility and regional roots

We regard sustainability not only as a technological task but also as a responsibility within our own company. For us, this includes:

• the efficient use of energy and materials,
• carefully considered decisions on business travel and mobility,
• a working environment that remains healthy, attractive and future-proof in the long term.

The Liga Nachhaltiger Betriebe provides a structured framework and a network of regional companies with whom we can share experiences and learn from one another. In April, LaVision will take part in a tree-planting campaign in the Harz region to support reforestation in our local nature conservation area.

Next steps: “Sustainability at LaVision”

In the coming months, we will continue to sharpen our sustainability profile, both in research and within our internal operations. In parallel, we are creating a dedicated “Sustainability at LaVision” page on our website. There we will provide greater transparency on our measures and targets and present exemplary application cases where our measurement technology supports sustainable research in energy, fluid mechanics, materials science, life sciences and other disciplines.
